Coaching built around an individualized plan.
Iron Focus Gym is a boutique strength space in Rosedale, Auckland — for busy professionals and people new or returning to lifting who want safe, effective resistance training that's ready when they are.

Built by an athlete, a data scientist, and a coach.
Alex Rippon is Head Coach and Founder of Iron Focus Gym. He trains as a Beach Sprinter and Beach Flagger and has held the number-one ranking in New Zealand for his age in both Surf Lifesaving events.
Thirteen weeks before the 2024 World Championships on the Gold Coast, a freak accident broke the bones in his left knee and ruptured his ACL. He chose to rehabilitate without surgery, returned to competition, and placed third in the world for his age at Beach Flags.
Professionally, Alex holds two degrees from the University of Auckland — Accounting and Economics, and Computer Science and Statistics — and is a certified personal trainer. After university he worked as a data analyst, data scientist, and consultant to many of New Zealand's largest companies. If you're a New Zealander, there's a good chance you've used a company he consulted for, or a product with a feature he helped build.
Iron Focus combines that background: athletic experience from High Performance Sport New Zealand, coaching expertise, and data science — using data to recommend the right exercises and weights, and building the app and gym around individualized resistance training.
- Beach Sprint & Beach Flags — #1 in New Zealand (age group)
- 3rd at World Championships, Beach Flags (age group), post-ACL rehabilitation
- Trained at High Performance Sport New Zealand
- BCom (Accounting & Economics) and BSc (Computer Science & Statistics), University of Auckland
- Certified Personal Trainer
- Former Data Analyst, Data Scientist & Consultant
