Screen how you move and tailor your plan before you commit. No experience needed.
Private studio, not a gym
A small private floor — no competing for equipment, no audience. After your foundation you can train independently here.
Train with your kind of crowd
Before 5pm, most clients are 45–75. After 5pm, most are under 45 — men and women, new and returning lifters. We'll help you pick a session time that feels right for you.
“I've had a very positive experience with my personal trainer Alex and his gym Iron Focus. Alex was excellent at finding different exercises and approaches to help strengthen my body while taking my arthritic knees into account. He was knowledgeable, patient, and always focused on what would work best for my abilities and limitations. Thanks to his guidance, I've felt stronger, more confident, and better able to manage my knee issues. I would highly recommend his services to anyone looking for professional and supportive personal training.”
How you start
Step 1 · 1 week
1 Week Free Trial
No-commitment intro sessions so we can screen movement, check fit, and prepare you for the block.
Step 2 · 3 weeks
3 Week Foundation
A focused in-person coaching block to get comfortable with resistance training — whether you are new to lifting or learning to train around injuries — with your programme in the Iron Focus App.
Step 3 · Matched to you
Ongoing coaching path
After your foundation, we match you to the right ongoing path — allocated to your member account when you are ready (not self-serve checkout).
What the first week looks like
You will not be thrown into a class or left to figure out the machines. We screen how you move, teach the lifts you need, and write a programme around you — booked sessions, a coach on the floor, in a private studio in Rosedale.
A private studio — not a crowded gym
There is no competing for equipment and no audience. After your three-week foundation you can keep coaching, or train independently here on your own programme.
Frequently asked questions
- I've never lifted before. Is that OK?
- Yes. We assume nothing about what you already know. The first week is for screening how you move and teaching technique step by step — including if you have never used a barbell, machine, or gym.
- Will I fit in? Who else trains here?
- Most people worry about this before they start — and it's rarely a problem here. Before 5pm, most of our in-person clients are between 45 and 75, men and women who are new or returning to lifting. After 5pm, most clients are under 45 — often professionals fitting training around work. Book at the time that suits your schedule — we can help you find a slot that feels comfortable.
- Do I need to be fit first?
- No. We start where you are. Loads stay light until the movement is solid, then we progress at your pace. You do not need a base of fitness before you book the free trial.
- Will I be left on my own or put in a class?
- No. Iron Focus is a private coaching studio, not a commercial gym or group class. You train from a written programme with a coach on the floor. Sessions are booked — you are not walking into a crowded weights room.
- What happens in the free trial week?
- We screen movement, check that the coaching fit is right, and start teaching the lifts you need. There is no commitment. If it is a good fit, the next step is a three-week foundation to get comfortable with resistance training.
- What should I wear?
- Comfortable training clothes and flat-soled shoes you can squat and deadlift in — running shoes with a thick heel are less ideal, but we can work with what you have on day one. Bring a water bottle. We will sort the rest.
- What if I have an old injury?
- Tell us on the form or when we call. Programmes are individualized around how you move. This is resistance training with a coach, not physiotherapy — if you have a current injury or recent surgery, get medical clearance before you start.
- Where is the studio and when can I train?
- The private studio is at 119 Apollo Drive, Rosedale, Auckland 0632. Staffed hours: 10am–8pm Mon, Tue, Thu & Fri. Wed by appointment. Closed Sat & Sun. We'll help you pick a session time that feels comfortable.
